The Advancing Learning Beyond the 180-Day School Year grant program is part of the Governor’s Learn365RI initiative, with the long-term goal of improving student learning outcomes and increasing three key metrics:
While work remains to continue to curb chronic absenteeism, under the statewide, cross-sector #AttendanceMattersRI campaign, chronic absenteeism during the 2023-2024 school year declined approximately 4.2 percentage points, bringing the statewide chronic absenteeism rate from 28.9% in school year 2022-2023 to 24.7%.
This represents 244,375 fewer absences, achieving a nearly 10 percentage point drop from the 2021-2022 school year when 34.1% of students were chronically absent statewide. This reduction in absences represents approximately 1,344,063 additional learning hours for Rhode Island students.
Math Matters RI is a statewide campaign led by Governor McKee and Commissioner Infante-Green to boost math achievement for Rhode Island students. Backed by $28.5 million in Learn365RI grants, the initiative supports Out-of-School Time programs, family engagement, and innovative learning opportunities designed to strengthen math skills. The goal is to ensure every student gains the confidence, problem-solving ability, and preparation they need for success in school, work, and life.
